Food: The Good Girl’s Drug
How to Stop Using Food to Control Your Feelings
(Penguin Group, 2011)

Calling on top mental health professionals, nutritionists, and fitness experts, Sunny offers real advice to a new generation fighting an age-old war. With humor and compassion, Food: The Good Girl’s Drug is about experiences shared by so many women—whether they’ve been struggling for years, or have recently admitted to themselves that, yes, it’s more than just a bad habit.

Author’s Note: Much has changed in the world of eating disorders screening, treatment, and recovery since I wrote this book more than a decade ago. It can still be a helpful guide for those who are new to investigating their relationships with food and their body—it offers the basics and can make you feel much less along. But if I were to go back and publish a second edition today, I would talk to leaders in the fat-acceptance movement and include the latest data on weight-neutral health, the Health at Every Size movement, and social factors such privilege, racism, and economic differences. So if you decide to give it a read, please do so with the understanding that it was written and published in 2011 with the knowledge and research that was available at the time.

A note about HealthyGirl.org: The website and community I built when I was researching and writing the book has fallen prey to expired domain abuse and is being misused by someone selling diet pills. Please help me and the entire community of vulnerable young people with eating disorders by reporting this abuse to Google here.
